Duties


Environmental Health assures food, lodging, and institutional sanitation as well as proper sewage disposal and well protection.

Services


Environmental Health provides a range of services that protect the health of all citizens of Nash County. These services include:
  • Permitting and inspection of facilities that sell food to the public
  • Provides food-handler classes to food service establishment employees
  • Inspects all public pools to enforce health and safety standards
  • Inspects day cares, summer camps, rest / nursing homes, hospitals, residential care and confinement facilities, tattoo parlors, and lodging facilities to enforce state rules
  • Enforces state laws which help protect children from exposure to lead hazards
  • Enforces state laws and regulations on smoke-free bars / restaurants
  • Helps prevent the spread of disease from improper sewage disposal and unprotected wells
  • Collects and tests water samples
  • Provides well permitting and related inspections and samples
  • Provides Septic design, permitting and installation inspections
  • Evaluates building sites for suitability of septic systems and enforces state and local well rules
