Citizens' Academy

We are no longer taking applications for the 2023 Nash County Citizens' Academy. If you are interested in receiving an application in 2024, email jonathan.edwards@nashcountync.gov.

The Nash County Citizens' Academy provides residents and business owners with an opportunity to learn about the structure and function of county government through a free, 8-week course. Participants will have an interactive, hands-on opportunity to see what it takes for Nash County to operate. Staff will offer a behind-the-scenes look at Parks and Recreation, Public Utilities, and Public Safety, including a tour of the 911 center and jail.

The Citizens' Academy is held on Tuesday evenings from 6–8 pm beginning March 21 and concludes with a graduation recognition during the May 21 Board of Commissioners' meeting. Dinner will be provided at each session. A limited number of spots are available for the 2023 Citizens' Academy.

Participants will be selected based on an application process, and you must be a Nash County resident or business owner at least 18 years old to apply. Those accepted into the program must attend at least six of the eight scheduled Citizens' Academy sessions to graduate.
