Nash County, NC – Nash County is pleased to announce the hiring of Ms. Denita DeVega as the new Director of the Nash County Department of Social Services. A North Carolina native, DeVega brings 25 years of experience in public service and advocacy to her new role in Nash County. Starting her career as a social worker, she advanced to the position of Program Manager for the Child Welfare Division at the Cumberland County Department of Social Services and later at Wake County Human Services. She most recently served as the Director of Social Services for Vance County over the last five years.
DeVega is knowledgeable of diverse social service programs and policies at the local, state, and national levels. She holds a master's degree in Agency Counseling and is a member of the North Carolina Board of Social Services Directors. "I am deeply honored and humbled to have been selected as the next Director of the Nash County Department of Social Services," DeVega said. "I am excited to embark on this new journey of leading and serving our community, and I am committed to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals and families in need. County Manager Stacie Shatzer introduced DeVega at the February 5th meeting of the Nash County Board of Commissioners. "I have the pleasure of announcing that Ms. DeVega comes to Nash County from Vance County after five years as their Department of Social Services Director," Shatzer said. "We are pleased to welcome Ms. DeVega to our management team and look forward to our continued improvement and success with our Department of Social Services."
DeVega's starting date as Director of the Nash County Department of Social Services is February 12, 2024.
