Prepayments - If you would like to get a jump start on your future tax notice, you can make pre-payments to the Tax Office. Contact the Tax Office for more details.  

PERSONAL & BUSINESS PERSONAL PROPERTY LISTING FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED BY JANUARY 31ST.   LATE LISTING PENALTIES OF 10% WILL BE IMPOSED AS REQUIRED BY LAW. 

  PROPERTY TAX RELIEF

ELDERLY AND PERMANENTLY DISABLED EXCLUSION, DISABLED VETERANS' EXCLUSION, CIRCUIT BREAKER DEFERMENT PROGRAM, BUILDER'S INVENTORY EXCLUSION 

If you are interested in applying for an exclusion program, you may request an application by calling (252) 459-1222 or go to Tax Forms to locate the application. The application for Property Tax Relief for the Elderly/Disabled, Disabled Veterans, and Circuit Breaker programs must be filed no later than June 1st. The Builders' Inventory Exclusion and all other property tax relief must be filed by June 1st. Other Property Tax Exemptions/Exclusions for other classified parcels are available - Use the AV-10 Application which must be filed by January 31st

Responsibilities

Nash County offices of the tax assessor and the tax collector are combined into a single office responsible for listing, appraising, and assessing real and personal property and for collecting taxes due on that property. The department also processes applications for tax relief and tax that may be granted under state law.

Tax Rate

In the spring, the Board of County Commissioners establishes the tax rate for the coming fiscal year which must be adopted by June 30th each year. The Tax Invoice (bill) is computed by applying the tax rate per every $100 of taxable value. Tax bills are printed and mailed to property owners in August of each year.
Property Tax is due September 1st every year.
