Special Permits
Fire Prevention Permit
There are several types of special operations or uses that require a fire prevention permit, as well as documentation and information that is unique from the standard renewable type fire prevention permits. They include blasting operations, indoor outdoor fireworks displays, and tent canopy permits. Below are descriptions and guidelines for each, with links to the associated documents and forms needed for each different type.
Blasting Operations
These permits cannot be issued in the field. The blasting permit is good for one year, or the length of the job. Blasting operation permits must be obtained at the Nash County Fire Marshal’s office at:
120 W. Washington St.
Suite 1102
Nashville, NC 27856
Indoor / Outdoor Fireworks Displays
Indoor Displays
Permits for indoor fireworks displays are most common with concerts, theatrical performances, as well as special events such as weddings. These permits may be issue either on the site, or at the fire marshal's office at:
120 W. Washington St.
Suite 1102
Nashville, NC 27856
The area inspector, or the inspector specially assigned to a particular venue, will need to witness a demonstration of each type of device at his or her discretion. For permits issued in the field at location of the display, an on-site permit will be completed and issued by the inspector.
Outdoor Displays
All other procedures are similar to indoor displays. Outdoor displays cannot be issued in the field, only from the fire marshal's office at:
120 W. Washington St.
Suite 1102
Nashville, NC 27856
Tent Canopy Permits
Tent and/or canopy permits are required for tent or canopy sizes outlined in the fire code. These permits are issued by the inspector in the field at the time of the site inspection. The inspector will complete an on-site permit at the time of the site visit and inspection. Three very important notes:
- Tents that are used for assembly purposes for 300 or more persons may require the permit holder to hire a minimum of two off-duty fire inspectors for fire watch purposes
- For two or more tents, a multiple tent permit is required
- Allow a minimum of a 48-hour notice for a site visit by the area inspector
