Rescue Services
Fire & Rescue Partnerships
Nash County contracts with four primary rescue providers to provide rescue services within the county. These departments include Stony Creek Rescue, Momeyer Fire and Rescue, Coopers Fire and Rescue, and Bailey Fire Department. Several other fire departments also provide supplemental rescue services. The services these departments provide include:
Vehicle Extrication
When vehicles collide with other vehicles or stationary objects, they may impact the vehicle in such a way that the occupants of the vehicle cannot use conventional means of egress. Rescue departments have specialized tools to move parts of the vehicle from around the patient in order to free them. This process can include the use of hydraulic, power, and hand tools along with an assortment of cribbing for stabilization. This type of rescue is one of the most common types that the rescue departments are called upon to perform.
Water Rescue
In North America, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death. This means that the ability to perform aquatic rescue is a vital component of any rescue team. These types of rescue can have several variables that depend mainly on the body of water and weather. They can include swift water, open water, ice and surf rescue. Each situation may call for different tools to be utilized such as jet boats, rafts, throw bags, helicopters, and/or long objects. Underwater body recoveries are also included in the discipline and include an additional host of equipment such as wet suits, scuba, sub-surface search cameras, and underwater lighting.
Confined Space
This rescue involves victims that are located within a confined space and must be rescued using many tools and techniques. Confined spaces can be filled with a variety of gases that can be hazardous to humans. Therefore these situations include aspects of rope rescue, patient packaging, ventilation, and atmospheric monitoring. Although confined space rescues are rare, permit required entries occur practically every day and the potential for such a rescue does exist.
High Angle
These type rescues involve situations when a victim is located above or below ground and usually is at a steep angle. Many times the most efficient means of removing the victim from these predicaments is to utilize rescue ropes, knots, webbing, hardware, and rope systems to either raise or lower the patient to safety. These tasks include rigging anchors, creating mechanical advantages, creating artificial high directional changes, and patient packaging.
