Deputy Sheriff Rossell E. Gilliam

End of Watch: Deputy Gilliam was struck and killed by a dump truck while directing traffic on US 264-A for the Boy Scout Jamboree. Deputy Gilliam had served with the Sheriff's Office for 12 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
The bridge on NC 231 over US 264 Bypass in Middlesex was renamed the Deputy Sheriff Rossell E. Gilliam Memorial Bridge in 2002.

Reserve Deputy Sheriff Timothy C. Barnes
End of Watch:
Deputy Barnes collapsed while conducting physical training for the academy for the DMV License and Theft Bureau. Deputy Barnes had worked for the Nash County Sheriff's Office as a School Resource Officer for 10 years before deciding to take a position with the DMV in May 2010. Deputy Barnes remained a Reserve Deputy with the Sheriff's Office after leaving for his new position.

Investigator Warren "Sneak" Lewis III
End of Watch:
Investigator Lewis was shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant for murder in Kinston, NC. He was serving at the time, on the U.S. Marshal's Eastern North Carolina Fugitive Task Force. Deputy Lewis had served with the Sheriff's Office for nine (9) years, with the last three (3) years on the U.S. Marshal's Task Force. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Deputy Sheriff Jared Michael Allison
End of Watch: Tuesday December 1, 2020
Deputy Allison was involved in a motor vehicle collision on US 301 with another vehicle on Thanksgiving evening November 26, 2020, while trying to catch up to a speeding motorcycle. Deputy Allison succumbed to his injuries on December 1, 2020. Deputy Allison had served with the Sheriff's Office for two years. He is survived by his wife and son.
