Emergency Financial Assistance
Emergency financial assistance is available for the following situations:
- Crisis Intervention Program (CIP)--pays for heating and cooling expenses when families are in a crisis.
- Progress Energy Neighbor Fund -- pays for heating and cooling expenses when families are in a crisis. Limited to CP&L customers.
- Emergency Assistance--short-term financial help for families with children under age 21 in
crisis that is not related to heating and cooling. Used primarily for rent and utilities. - Pauper Burials -- pays toward the cost of burial when no other resources are available.

In Home Aid
NC Aging and Adult Services allows for the purchase of services for the provision of care with home management, personal care, and custodial supervision for adults who are unable to care for themselves and have no one to provide the needed care in order to remain in their own home. Protective Services for Adults (18 & Older)
Protective Services investigates reports of neglect, abuse or exploitation of adults, evaluation of the degree of damage or risk to the adult, to obtain suitable care and services for adults in or out of their own homes and initiation of court action where necessary. Also included are counseling and planning with the adult's family toward the solution and prevention of problems causing neglect, abuse or exploitation and assisting families in utilizing appropriate services and community resources.
