Solid Waste

The solid waste program assures safe collection, storage, and disposal of our community's garbage and other waste. We operate a landfill for construction and demolition waste disposal, operate 9 convenience centers for collecting and recycling waste throughout the county, and investigate complaints concerning solid waste violations.

Take the Time to Secure Your Load!

Though you may not intentionally litter, if you do not secure the items in your truck bed, you are contributing to dangerous and unsightly roadside litter. Prevent litter by covering solid waste when transporting it to the landfill and convenience centers. Help reduce roadside litter and increase safety by using tarps, cargo nets, and tie-downs to secure loads.

Under North Carolina's anti-littering law, individuals may be fined and face community service for intentionally and unintentionally littering.
