Frequently Asked Questions
Is a permit required to dispose of solid waste at convenience centers?
Yes. A Convenience Center Permit in the form of a hang-tag issued by Nash County is required to dispose of solid waste at any Nash County convenience center.
Why did the County implement a permit system at convenience centers?
Nash County convenience center staff have conducted numerous "sting operations" over the past several years in an effort to reduce misuse of our convenience centers by citizens who are not charged the solid waste fee on their tax bill each year. During these events, we found that citizens who did not live in Nash County or who lived in one of the municipalities were also using these facilities - both of whom do not pay this annual fee and therefore are not eligible to use the convenience centers.
Is there a fee to purchase a Convenience Center Permit?
Yes. The fee for fiscal year 25/26 is $155. Rural household citizens are billed the solid waste fee on their annual tax bill.
Who will receive the Convenience Center Permits in the mail?
Rural household citizens are billed the solid waste fee on their annual tax bill for each property they own. The Convenience Center Permits are mailed to eligible property owners in the spring of the renewal year. Should you not receive your Convenience Center Permit, please contact Nash County Public Utilities (252) 462-2064.

If I lose my Convenience Center Permit can I purchase a replacement?

Replacement permits may be obtained from the Nash County Public Utilities Department located at the Nash County Administration Building in Nashville between the hours of 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. If I live in one of the municipalities of Nash County (Nashville, Spring Hope, Bailey, etc.) will I receive a Convenience Center Permit?
