Emergency Preparedness

Creating an Emergency Plan

Make an emergency plan to eliminate some of the stress of traumatic events! It is normal to feel stressed, confused, or scared during an emergency. One way to mitigate this is by creating a plan for how you and your family will respond to disasters. This is especially helpful for households with children and/or teenagers, so they know who to call, what to do, and where to go in an emergency.

Some helpful tips:

  • Use a template (like the ones listed under resources) to map out phone numbers, medications, evacuation routes, your providers, the closest hospital, and emergency contact numbers, and leave it in an easy-to-find location in your home.
  • Conduct practice drills. Conducting fire, tornado, and hurricane drills is helpful. Discuss where to go, what to do, who to call, and what to pack in case of an emergency.
  • Stay informed! Follow your local news station, sign up for emergency alerts (Nash County uses Regroup), and follow trusted sources on social media to keep up to date with local disasters or emergencies.

Mission

The Nash County Health Department's general mission is to improve health, prevent disease, protect against exposure to environmental hazards, and promote health equity for all. To accomplish this mission, the Nash County Health Department must ensure its operations are performed efficiently with minimal disruption including during an emergency.

An essential function for the Nash County Health Department to meet its mission and protect the public's health is to prepare, respond to, and mitigate threats before, during, or after a disaster.

All Hazards Plan

The Nash County Health Department Emergency Response All Hazards Plan (ERAHP) is an all-hazards framework that outlines the strategic approach and operational structure for preparing for, responding to, and recovering from public health emergencies. These may include, but are not limited to, infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, bioterrorism, hazardous material exposures, and other events that pose a significant risk to the health and safety of the community.
